Sit a spell

I am reminded today of the simple things that i love about my home. my back deck and the view from it amazes me every time i take a few minutes to notice. it’s my favorite thing about this place other than all the sentimental things and memories i have here. when you raise your children in a home, it becomes it’s own personality. and over the years i have not been so nice to my home...always putting it down for things that don’t work or look the way i want them to. always saying i wanna find somewhere better to live. telling other people i live in a shithole. things like that. but today i have been reminded of all the quirky and unique things that make this place a home. yes, it needs MANY updates and a thorough cleaning. it stays dirty bc we let our dogs come in & out, along with our cat. they sleep in the bedroom. our beds don’t have headboards and such. we don’t have matching furniture anywhere. our walls have holes in them from our yahoo son & his yahoo friends. i can’t remember the last time i mopped because...why? futile effort. our bathtubs are ancient and one shower doesn’t even work; it’s just a water line sticking high out of the wall. the wallpaper is peeling off in the better bathroom bc our cat uses it as a scratching post. shall i go on? you get the picture. but, ya know what? i’m so happy here. i really am. i love having a warm fire in our fireplace where we burn a REAL fire. i love that all my artwork hangs on the walls and covers the holes here and there. i love that we don’t have a solitary thing in this place worth stealing. i love our huge, 1960’s windows that let all this beautiful light in. i love to hear music being played in this house, it feeds my soul. and i love that this place has always kept us warm & dry and nice and cool in the summertime. it hasn’t failed us. and it’s been a constant place of safety, love, acceptance and genuine welcoming to us and everyone who‘s ever been here. i love my home and i’m so thankful we live here.
